Home Remedies Using Paper Clips

Dating back to the 1800s, paper clips are typically used to fasten paper together, but you will see there are many other ways to benefit from the invention. Paper clips are made out of flexible pieces of steel wire that is bent into a looped shape. You may be surprised when taking a look at some of the home remedies for paper clips that you can take advantage of.

Paper Clip Home Remedies

Because of its configuration, the paper clip offers a variety of versatile uses – many of which that could definitely come in handy in the future. To take advantage of this inexpensive, common household item, try considering the following home remedies for paper clips:

a) Remote Control Fix:

When you’ve lost a battery in your TV remote control, there is a way to use a paper clip to operate remotes that are missing one battery in a two-battery compartment [1]. See Resources for the link to the instructions.

b) Attach Scented Sachets in Closets:

To keep away the mustiness and other scents that can attack a closet, place a cotton ball soaked in pure vanilla extract or an essential oil. Poke a few holes in the bag and bend a paper clip so that you can hang in the closet. Scent substitutes include cinnamon for the garage and cupboards, and lavender for laundry rooms and closets.

c) Tear Through Shrink Wrap:

New CDs, DVDs and other packaged goods are often protected with a layer of shrink wrap. You may try and use your fingernails to unsuccessfully open the packaging or put a paper clip to work. Twist out the end of a paper clip so you can slice through the under the folded section of the wrap, and lift up.

d) Instant Cherry Pitter [2]:

Pitting cherries can become a messy task when you’re preparing the fruit for a recipe. Unfold a clean paper clip at the center, and insert into an end of the cherry (through the top). Loosen the pit and pull. If you wish to keep the stem intact, insert the paper clip at the bottom of the cherry.

e) Quick Sewing:

To pull a skirt together that is too big around the waist, fold over the material and hold in place with a paper clip or two.

f) Keep ‘Em All Together:

If you find your paper clips constantly scattered about your desk drawer, tidy up by using a magnet to keep them all neatly together.

g) Make a Hook:

When hanging pictures on the wall, insert a large paper clip on the back, and bend to hang on a nail. This remedy works for lightweight wall decorations.

h) Zipper Pull:

Don’t lose hope for your sweatshirts and jackets when the zipper breaks. Untwist a small paper clip so that you can slip it through the hole. Twist the clip closed and you have an instant zipper pull. Get creative with the clip and thread beads over the paper clip before closing. This remedy can be used to fix a broken zipper on a pocketbook.

i) Mark the End of Tape:

To keep an eye out for the end of transparent tape, lift the end of the tape and stick a paper clip underneath. This way, you can spend more time wrapping packages and less time looking for the end of the tape.

j) A Colorful Study Aid:

Use colored paper clips to develop a system that helps you recall and separate important passages and information when studying for tests, conducting research, or writing an essay.

k) Inexpensive Bookmark:

When you’ve run out of bookmarks, keep your place in a book or magazine by slipping a paper clip on the last page you’ve read. For a more attractive –looking bookmark, attach a colorful ribbon on the end of the paper clip before inserting.

l) Ceiling Fan Extender:

For short people, a paper clip can make turning the ceiling fan on and off much easier. Extend the chain by fastening a paper clip to the end. You can create a chain of paper clips when your fan chain is broken.

m) Handcuff Release:

With a paper clip, people have maneuvered their way out of some types of handcuffs. One way has been to unfold the clip to form a line, and then twist the end into a right angle. Use the clip like a key and use to lift the lock fixator. Others have inserted a semi-unfolded clip into the hole of the handcuffs to lift the mechanisms inside.

n) Get In Your Home:

Some people have gotten into their locked homes by bending a paper clip in such a way that it can effectively pick their lock when they’ve forgotten their keys. This is only possible with some house doors.

o) Homemade Jewelry:

When looking for a unique piece of jewelry, consider using a paper clip to create shiny necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Use colored paper clips to create cool fashions. This would make an especially fun project for parents to do with their kids.

    All the paper clip home remedies are just awesome, esp the TV remote control fixing as the best one. ‘Ceiling fan extender’ and ‘Zipper Pull’ are too cool!
