I had a root canal 10 yrs. ago and the temp. crown fell off about 4 months after the extraction, i never put a crown on it and had left it as it was until 2 days ago when i had it pulled. The dentist noticed an infection on an ex-ray, that was forming at the root of remaining tooth. I decided to go with no pain killers other than ibuprofen and starting today (as clot seemed to have formed, I kept gauze applications on for 4 hours)aspirin in rotation with the ibuprofen. Throbbing pain started three hours ago and I looked up this site.
