Home Remedies using Epsom Salt

Epsom salts is an organic compound that is made with sulphate and magnesium. It’s pretty inexpensive to get your hands on a carton of Epsom salts, which is quite popular with people looking to soak in a relaxing bath. However, there is a wide range of home remedies using Epsom salt that go beyond the many medical solutions you’ve probably already heard of.

Epsom Salt Home Remedies

Don’t you just love when a common item in your household has so many different uses? From addressing outdoor pests to getting yourself out of stressful situations, you may want to take a look at some of the home remedies using Epsom salts that have nothing to do with your health:

a) Repel Raccoons:

If you’re looking to make your garbage cans less desirable to the masked bandits roaming around in the middle of the night, add a few tablespoons of Epsom salt around the cans, and watch the critters turn around in the opposite direction. They are not too fond of the taste of the salt. You must reapply after every rain to make sure they don’t come back.

b) Slug Deterrence:

Send slugs packing by sprinkling Epsom salt where they roam about.

c) Garden Fertilizer:

You can use Epsom salts to fertilize your houseplants, roses, and other flowers and trees in your yard.

d) Enhance Your Tomatoes:

Give your tomatoes and plants a boost by adding one tablespoon of Epsom salt for every foot that your tomato plant has grown.

e) Grow Greener Grass:

The magnesium and iron in Epsom salts can encourage your lawn to become greener. Add two tablespoons of the salt to one gallon of water and spread across your grass. Spray down with plain hose water to make sure the solution soaks into the ground.

f) Clean Bathroom Tiles:

To clean up dull bathroom tiles, mix equal parts of Epsom salts and dishwashing liquid, and then dab on dirty areas. Scrub away the dirtiness. The Epsom salt helps dissolve the grime on your tiles.

g) Jumpstart a Car Battery [1]:

When your car battery won’t turn over, add more life to it by dissolving about 30 grams of Epsom salts in warm water and adding it to each battery cell.

h) Soft Towels:

If you soak non-absorbent bath towels overnight in a bucket of warm water and ½ cup of Epsom salts – you can wring them out the next day and tumble dry to enjoy softness like when they were first bought.

i) Window Decoration:

If you’d like to create a frosty appearance on your windows for Christmastime, add Epsom salt to stale beer until the salt has finished dissolving. Apply the mixture to your windows with a sponge (the best method is to sweep the sponge in an arcing motion). When the solution dries, the windows will look frosted.
