Actually, the tip with the benadryl and mallox isn't a bad idea at all. It's the main ingredients you will find in "Pink Magic" meds.

obxmom's tip is dangerous. 2 tablespoons of dye free benadryl contains 3 TIMES the typical dose of diphenhydramine, the active ingredient in benadryl. Even used as a mouth wash and swallowed slowly would result in an OVERDOSE of benadryl

Oral thrush is a condition I have been dealing with, off and on, for the last 20-25 years. I have not found any self-help methods that give relief for very long. When my baking soda mouth rinses, avoiding acidy or spicy foods and switching toothpastes all fail, I go to the doctor for an Rx of Diflucan (there are inexpensive generics available now). This will take care of it OK, but I often try all the home remedies before resorting to the Rx. Just do what works for you, and don't let it frighten or upset you. Good luck.

Mix equal parts Extra Strength Mallox & dye free Benadryl together. (About 2 Tablespoons of each) Swish well to ensure it coats as much of the mouth, throat, tounge & between teeth as possible. Gargle for a minute or two, then swallow slowly. It will cause the tounge to become numb, and may cause a numbing tingle in the throat.

I didn’t know that a mother and baby could pass on thrush to one another. For breastfeeding mothers, I can recommend Avent Ultra Comfort Nursing Pads as comfortable pads without plastic. Also, my sister used Nystatin to clean her nipples and she assures me that it is completely safe to do.
