Home Remedies for Fibromyalgia
There are around six million Americans that experience pain in a specific part of their body. Sometimes, the pain is so unbearable that they cannot lead a normal day (and oftentimes – a normal life). However, with home remedies for fibromyalgia, making it through daily tasks becomes much easier with the help of pain control measures.

What is Fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia (also known as fibromyalgia syndrome or FMS) is a disorder characterized by musculoskeletal pain that spreads throughout the body. The condition is believed to intensify painful sensations by affecting the way your brain processes pain signals [1]. Fibromyalgia is often accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. Commonly affected parts of the body where fibromyalgia is most active include the neck, chest, hips, and thighs [2].
Causes and Symptoms
Doctors aren’t not fully clear on what causes fibromyalgia, but they believe a handful of factors work with one another to create the symptoms. Genetics seems to play a role since the condition tends to run in families. Some believe there could be certain genetic mutations that may make certain people more susceptible to developing the disorder. Some illnesses appear to trigger or aggravate fibromyalgia, such as infections. If you have suffered a physical or emotional trauma (such as post- traumatic stress disorder), then you may develop symptoms of fibromyalgia.
Typical fibromyalgia signs and symptoms include deep muscle pain, painful tender points, and stiffness in the morning. Other major symptoms of fibromyalgia include sleep problems, fatigue, and anxiety. You may also experience [3]:
• Concentration and memory problems
• Depression
• Headache
• Irritable bowel syndrome
• Painful menstrual cramps
• Numbness or tingling in hands, arms, feet and legs
• Urinary symptoms
Fibromyalgia Home Remedies
There are certain risk factors that place you in more of a danger of developing fibromyalgia, such as your sex (females lead over men in diagnosis), family history, and whether you have rheumatic disease (such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus). If you should fall into any of these categories, you may want to especially consider using some of the following home remedies for fibromyalgia:
a) Vinegar:
Apply warm vinegar to affected muscles to feel relief from the pain of fibromyalgia.
b) Vegetable Juice:
Try drinking a glass of freshly prepared raw vegetable juice on a daily basis. The best results come when you incorporate carrots, cabbage and beets. Consume the juice two to three times per day.
c) Honey and Lemon Juice:
A fresh preparation of two to three tablespoons each of honey and lemon juice can help treat fibromyalgia symptoms. Add the ingredients to a glass of lukewarm water before consuming.
d) Cranberry and Radish:
To fight severe muscular pain, consume freshly prepared cranberry or radish juice.
e) Papaya:
Raw papaya contains components that have proven beneficial for the treatment of fibromyalgia symptoms. First, grind 8 to 10 papaya seeds and mix in a glass of water. Bring the liquid to a boil, and then drain the contents. It is suggested to follow this treatment two to three times per day for a period of one month.
f) Cod Liver Oil and Orange Juice:
Add cod liver oil to a glass of orange juice to treat some of your symptoms of fibromyalgia.
g) Ginger:
Add four to six ounces of ginger powder to a moderately hot bath to induce sweating and help remove toxins from your body. You can also drink hot ginger tea for the same effect.
a) Coconut [4]:
According to a book titled, “Coco o Milagre de Uma Gordura” by Brazilian cardiologist Sergio Puppin, coconut oil is effective in treating sickness and disease, including fibromyalgia.
h) Turmeric:
To ease muscle pain, add one to two teaspoons of turmeric powder to a glass of water, and consume two to three times per day.
i) Regular Exercise:
To improve your overall condition, regular exercise is one of the best treatments for reducing pain and other symptoms. Gentle exercise is quite effective as a method of pain relief. Suggested activities for fibromyalgia patients include stretching, daily walks, swimming, Pilates, and other low-impact exercise programs. Jogging and weight lifting are usually not recommended.
j) Better Sleep Conditions:
Disrupted sleep is both a cause and consequence of fibromyalgia, and can lead to pain. It is important to get around eight hours of sleep every night.
k) Heat Therapy:
Using heat to relieve pain is an effective approach for fibromyalgia patients. This may include using a heating pad on achy muscles or using heated oils while massaging the body.
l) Olive Oil:
Use warmed olive oil to enhance the experience of a rub down or massage of painful muscles.
m) Reduce Your Stress Levels:
Learning how to reduce stress levels is beneficial for people with fibromyalgia – especially when you can control the emotional stress in your life. Try listening to your favorite music or reading the next bestseller. Soak in a warm tub filled with aromatherapy oils. Enjoy a funny movie with the grandkids. Deep breathing exercises will also help, as well as learning meditation techniques.
n) Yoga and Tai Chi:
If you learn the techniques of yoga and/or tai chi, the combination of slow movements, meditation, and deep breathing can help your body to relax. Patients can help gain better control over their fibromyalgia symptoms when they embrace such activities.
o) Don’t Overdo It:
It is important to pace yourself after a fibromyalgia diagnosis. Keeping your activity level balanced with moderation will help reduce the frequency of symptom flare ups.
