TO STOP HICKUPS: Put water into your mouth (DO NOT SWALLOW-YET),EXHALE THROUGH YOUR NOSE COMPLETELY, PLACE YOUR THUMBS AND FORE FINGERS TO COVER YOUR EARS AND CLOSE YOUR NOSE. Then, swallow the water. The action of NOT swallwing air causes the hickups to subside and go away. (IF 1ST TIME DOES NOT WORK, DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN !!!) THIS TIME -CLOSE YOUR EYES TOO-. WORKS FOR ME EVERY TIME !!! RON.

Don't ask me why, but my grandpa used to tell me to swallow a spoonful of sugar when I got the hiccups. I never found out if it worked – by the time I got around to it – they were gone.

I later read it has something to do with triggering your taste buds. I think I prefer the honey suggestion, but you might not always have that in the house."

I was taught to say verbally "Grapefruit" to stop hiccups. If you can't say it out loud, just mouth the words. I swear, it works!
