For many, a few lightly colored spots may dance across their cheeks, while some fair skinned individuals could spend days counting the number of freckles on their body. They are not an indication that something is wrong or a part of some disorder – it’s simply a genetic feature. When you’d like to lighten your “dots,” try considering the natural approach of using home remedies for freckles.

What are Freckles?

Freckles are pigmented skin cells that are a part of your genetic makeup – especially if you were born with fair skin. The pigmentation is quite common when people are young (prior to entering puberty), but many adults have freckles on their face. The small, single spots are usually tan in color and contain more melanin (pigment) than other skin cells [1]. They are a completely normal occurrence, but tend to darken with overexposure to the sun.

Freckles are commonly found on the nose and cheeks of the body, but also appear on the shoulders, arms, and other places that are exposed to the sun.

Some people have freckles that fade away almost completely in the winter and return in the summer. Other people’s freckles don’t change much with or without the sun and can be seen year-round. Freckles also tend to fade as people get older. Whether you’re freckled or not, be sure to wear sunscreen and follow other sun-safety rules.

Causes of Freckles

Simple freckles and sunburn freckles are the two basic types that you may encounter. Simple freckles are typically tan, round, and small – measuring about the size of a common nail head. They can also be slightly reddish or light brown in color [2]. This type of freckle is typically hereditary and favoring certain physical characteristics, such as affecting lots of people with red and blonde hair.

Sunburn freckles (also called lentigo simplex) are often darker and display irregular jagged borders. Some can reach a size larger than a pencil eraser. This type of freckle often appears on the upper back and shoulders, where most people tend to develop severe sunburn.

Freckle Home Remedies

For some people, they can’t run away from their freckles, but they can still lessen their appearance with natural skin lightening techniques that use common household ingredients. By embracing different lifestyle habits and opting for natural treatments, the following home remedies for freckles could really come in handy:

a) Vitamin C:

An increase of vitamin C can help reduce freckles that appear all over your body. You can take supplements or add more vitamin C-rich foods to your diet, such as oranges, grapefruit, or orange juice. Vitamin C reduces freckles by making your skin less sensitive to sun exposure.

b) Sour Cream:

Get rid of freckles by apply sour cream to the face. Keep on the remedy for a few minutes, and then gently wipe off with tissue. If you want your skin to stay fresh and supple, rub on a moisturizer after the sour cream treatment.

c) Fruit Masks:

When making masks for the face, use fruit (such as strawberry, cucumber or apricot) to treat freckles.

d) Sour Milk:

The lactic acid in milk can effectively lighten the pigmentation on your skin without causing dryness. Using sour milk as a daily face wash or rinse can gradually lighten the darkness of freckles, as well as make skin smoother.

e) Stay Out of Sun:

One of the easiest home remedies for freckles is to avoid the sun. If you must venture outside on a sunny day, save your trip until after peak UVA house of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. When going outside, reapply your sunscreen every two hours.

f) Lemon Juice:

The extract of lemons offers effective natural bleaching results. Use your fingers to apply the lemon juice, which can help to slowly lighten freckles. For smoother skin results, you can follow up with an olive oil and vitamin E mixture after putting on the lemon juice [3].

g) Onions:

Onions have been proven to effectively treat freckles and other marks on the face. Slice a red onion in half and rub on freckled skin one time per day.

h) Honey:

Warmed honey has been known to treat unwanted freckles. After heating your honey, add a small amount of wheat germ and gently apply to the skin using your fingers. Follow up by washing off the honey with lukewarm water, and then rinsing thoroughly with cold water.

i) Vegetable Juices with Creams:

To gradually eliminate freckles, mix the juices of vegetables and fruits (like lemon, orange, parsley) with your favorite skin cream, and then apply to unwanted spots.

j) Slather on the Sunscreen:

Sunscreen is an important part of fighting unwanted freckles. Using it all year round is recommended. You can use sunscreen as a moisturizer before putting on your makeup. Choose products that offer at least a 15 SPF. The sunscreen will help prevent future freckles while fading the ones you have. People with extremely fair skin should opt for even higher SPF of 30 or 50. Putting the sunscreen on your hands daily will also protect you from damaging rays while you drive.

k) Put on a Hat:

Wearing a hat when you are outside is a good way to prevent freckles associated with sun exposure. The brim of the hat should be wide so that it provides shade for the nose. You should even wear a hat on sunny winter days and cloudy days because UV rays are still present.

l) Castor Oil:

Apply castor oil on the skin before going to bed to remove the appearance of freckles from your skin.

m) Vitamin E:

Increase your intake of vitamin E or rub in a cream with the vitamin to lessen the appearance of freckles.

n) Mustard:

After grinding some yellow mustard seeds, add to milk to create a mask that can treat freckles throughout the night as you sleep. In the morning, wash it off and the longer you repeat this daily regimen, the quicker you will start to see unwanted marks slowly lighten.

o) Turmeric and Sesame:

A remedy made out of turmeric paste, crushed sesame seeds, and a small amount of water can help fight freckles. Apply the paste to the skin as a way to address large patches of freckles.

p) Driving Gloves:

Wearing driving gloves can help protect your skin during car travel and prevent the darkening of hand freckles.

q) Watermelon and Rice:

Put a hole into a watermelon and place rice grains inside. Leave the fruit as it is for one week. Take it out and make a paste out of the contents. Apply to your freckles.

r) Shirts with Long Sleeves:

To make sure the freckles on your arms do not accumulate, wear long-sleeved shirts whenever you can. Clothing will offer more protection for this part of your body than sunscreen. This is especially true if you plan on being outside for long periods of time.

If you don’t like the sound of the word, ‘hemorrhoids,’ then you can refer to the issues you’re having in the rectum region as ‘piles’ because they are the same thing. This condition is often viewed as being an “embarrassing” problem, but with home remedies for piles – you can treat your symptoms within the comfort of your own household.

What is Piles?

Piles are swollen and inflamed veins that develop in the anus and lower rectum. The ailment (best known as hemorrhoids) is common and can occur inside the rectum (internal hemorrhoids) or under the skin around the anus (external hemorrhoids) [1].

Causes and Symptoms

You develop piles when the veins around your anus stretch too much due to pressure. Common causes of piles include straining during bowel movements or increased pressure on the veins during pregnancy. Piles can also develop from the following causes:

•	Sitting for long periods of time on the toilet
•	Chronic diarrhea or constipation
•	Being overweight or obese
•	Anal intercourse
•	An inherited tendency to develop hemorrhoids
•	Your age causes weakened tissues

The symptoms you experience with a case of piles are affected by the location of your hemorrhoids. Internal piles are inside the rectum and you usually cannot feel or see these kinds of hemorrhoids. External piles under the skin around the anus can become easily irritated. Common signs and symptoms of hemorrhoids may include blood on your toilet tissue or in the toilet bowl that does not come with pain. Itching or irritation in your anal region may occur. Other symptoms include pain or discomfort, swelling around the anus, a lump near the anus, and leakage of feces.

Piles Home Remedies

By the age of 50, it is estimated that around half of adults have already dealt with the itching, discomfort and bleeding that comes with a case of piles. To alleviate symptoms, you may want to consider some of the following home remedies for piles:

a) Turnip:

The leaves of turnip can come in pretty handy when treating piles. Extract the juice from the leaves to make a 150 mL dose that is given to a patient. For the best results, it is suggested to add 50mL of the juice to equal quantities of watercress, spinach, and carrot juices.

b) Ginger:

Taking a ½ teaspoon of fresh ginger juice mixed with one tablespoon of honey, and one teaspoon each of fresh lime juice and fresh mint juice, is said to help treat the symptoms of piles.

c) Warm Soak:

Soaking in a warm bath on a regular basis is beneficial for someone looking to fight the symptoms of piles. Use plain warm water and stay in the tub for 10 to 15 minutes. You should repeat this process for two to three times per day.

d) Daily Shower:

Since it is important to keep the anal region clean, a daily shower (or better yet, a bath) will effectively cleanse around the anus. Gently soak or wash in warm water. Make sure to gently dry the area – using a hair dryer is best to avoid irritating your skin.

e) Baby Wipes:

You must keep your anal region clean after going to the bathroom, but sometimes the dryness of toilet paper causes irritation. Use moist towelettes or baby wipes that do not contain perfume or alcohol.

f) Ice Pack:

Apply an ice pack or cold compress to your anus to relieve swelling associated with piles.

g) Onions:

To treat dry piles, apply a crushed onion (that has been skinned and roasted) to affected skin.

h) Sesame Seeds:

Some people have used sesame seeds to treat their piles. The remedy can be taken as a decoction by boiling 20 grams of the seeds in 500 milliliters of water until the liquid is reduced by one-third. Another way to prepare the seeds is to ground into a paste with water, which is associated with treating piles that bleed.

i) Pomegranate:

Add one cup of pomegranate peels to a pot of water, and bring to a boil. Allow the liquid to cool, and then drink a glass of the mixture in the morning and in the evening.

j) Dry Figs:

Clean three to four figs with hot water, and let them soak overnight. In the morning, eat the figs and drink the water that they were soaking in. to see the best results, it is suggested to repeat the process for at least three to four weeks. The figs contain tiny seeds that actually stimulate the peristaltic movement associated with the intestines. This causes a bowel movement that keeps the alimentary canal clean. The remedy helps alleviate pressure on the anal region and avoid a bout of constipation, which can worsen your hemorrhoids.

k) White Radish:

To treat some of the symptoms of piles, create and consume a mixture comprised of 100 mg of grated white radish and one teaspoon of honey. Some people have also drunk the juice of the white radish (60 to 90 mL doses) for two times per day. The home remedy is also effective in treating the pain and swelling of piles when used as an external solution – a paste of white radish mixed with milk. You may also grate five to six white radishes in a bowl to extract juice. Combine the radish juice with two teaspoons of honey, and stir the mixture well. Directly apply the remedy to exposed piles.

Burns are classified as first, second, third and fourth degree. Out of all the different groups of burns an individual may suffer, a first degree injury causes the least amount of damage – only affecting the outer layer of the skin. To encourage healing and dull the pain, you may want to consider the advantages of using home remedies for first degree burns.

What is a First Degree Burn?

A first degree burn is characterized by skin damage that comes as a result of coming in contact with excessive heat or fire. First degree burns are the least damaging out of all the different kinds of burns that exist. They bring less pain and only affect the top layer of your skin [1]. The burn could come from exposure to fire, electric shock, or coming into contact with chemicals. Overexposure to direct sunlight can also cause a first degree burn.

Symptoms of First Degree Burn

These minor burns are characterized by redness and swelling of the affected portion, with or without pain. First degree burns are not considered to be serious cases, unless these burns involve a major part of the hands, feet, face, any of the major joints or buttocks. First degree burns, which are considered minor, do not develop blisters. The skin becomes reddened, moist and inflamed. These burns do not cause scarring and can be treated at home itself.

First Degree Burn Home Remedies

One of the first things people do when they get burned is to treat the pain – followed by protecting the wound as it heals. While it is commonplace to use topical creams and ointments out of their first-aid kit, you can also benefit from the following home remedies for first degree burns:

a) Tea Bag:

If you’ve burned your hand on the stove, consider moistening a few bags of tea with cool water and placing them over the wound. Chemicals found in the tea (called tannins) will draw the heat from the burn, as well as facilitate healing. Hold the bags in place and wrap the affected skin with gauze.

b) Vitamin E:

Taking a vitamin E supplement can help prevent scarring after suffering a burn. You can rub the oil over affected skin during the healing process – when skin is no longer raw.

c) Potato:

Some first degree burns have responded well to a slice of potato placed over affected skin. The starches in the raw potato work towards soothing the pain.

d) Preparation H:

Promote a faster rate of healing by applying Preparation H (the well-known cream for treating hemorrhoids). The product contains a yeast derivative that encourages the healing process. Apply a small amount of the cream to your burn on a daily basis. It has the power to reduce the healing time by one to three days.

e) Cold Compress:

Resist the temptation to put ice directly on a burn. Instead, use a cold compress to cool down the inflammation associated with a burn.

f) Remove Clothing and Accessories:

When a burn first occurs, it is important to remove any clothing or jewelry from the skin. The heat or chemicals associated with your burn can still affect your body after the initial damage has taken place.

g) Running Faucet:

Hold your burned skin under a stream of cool water, if possible. Continue for at least five to 10 minutes, or until the pain starts to fade.

h) Bucket of Water:

You can also immerse affected body parts in a bucket or bathtub filled with cold (not ice-cold) water.

i) Gauze:

After cleaning your wound – clean, dry and sterile gauze should be loosely covered over burned skin. You never want to use anything made with an adhesive or cotton over burns.

j) Drink Glasses of Water:

When you drink a lot of water, your body stays hydrated, which helps speed up the healing process.

k) Avoid Butter and Oil:

Contrary to popular belief, running butter, oil and other greasy substances on a burn will slow down the healing process.

l) Antiseptic Cleaner:

Wash your burned skin with an antiseptic cleanser found in your bathroom cabinet.

m) Vinegar:

To soothe the pain and gain relief from the burning sensation, apply diluted vinegar to affected skin.

n) Aloe Vera:

Put the healing properties of aloe vera to good use by breaking open the leaf of an aloe plant, and applying the sap to burned skin. Cover with clean gauze.

o) Honey:

To speed up your rate of recovery and fight inflammation, honey is effective in treating mild burns. Honey also helps to reduce the pain of a burn [2]. After cleaning affected skin with mild soap, apply a thin layer of honey, and gently wrap with gauze. Repeat this process in the morning and evening.

p) Honey and Olive Oil:

Some people will mix honey with olive oil before applying to their burns. Apply this remedy after washing the skin with cool water.

q) Oatmeal:

The healing process of a burn can create itchy skin. Soak the burned area in a basin filled with lukewarm water and oatmeal to gain relief.

r) Milk:

Soak burned skin in a container of cold milk, which helps prevent the formation of blisters and pus boils.

s) Avoid Ice Water:

You may think freezing the heat of a burn is helpful, but ice water and ice will worsen a burn – not make it feel or heal any better.

t) Egg Whites:

Applying egg whites to a burn delivers a soothing remedy that promotes healing of the skin.

u) Onion:

As soon as they have experienced a burn, some people have relieved their pain by applying onion to the affected skin.

From simple household products to a dye job gone wrong, don’t think chemical burns just happen at the workplace or in a chemistry class. An accident waiting to happen could be found in your linen closet, the garage, basement, and amongst your cleaning supplies. Home remedies for chemical burns allow you to quickly treat the skin and minimize the damage.

Symptoms of a Chemical Burn

A chemical burn is skin damage that usually takes place when you come in contact with a strong acid or base. Household products that have the potential to chemically burn the skin include bleach, concrete mix, metal cleaners, pool chlorinators, and drain or toilet bowl cleaners [1].

The majority of chemical burns occur on the face, eyes, arms and legs. Most of the burns are relatively small and treatable at home. Depending on the chemical in question, you may experience deep tissue damage that you may not readily see. A range of factors play a role in the amount of damage associated with a chemical burn, such as:

•	Strength or concentration of the chemical
•	Site of contact (eyes, skin, or mucous membrane)
•	Whether you swallowed or inhaled the chemical
•	Whether you experienced skin contact
•	How much of the chemical you came in contact with
•	The characteristics and function of the chemical
•	Time length of exposure

The signs and symptoms of chemical burns to consider include redness, skin irritation, burning sensation, pain or numbness, blisters, black dead-looking skin, cough or shortness of breath (if inhaled), and changes in vision (if chemical gets in your eyes). Severe cases of chemical burns involve low blood pressure, faintness, weakness, dizziness, shortness of breath, headache, muscle twitching, and irregular heartbeat.

Chemical Burn Home Remedies

When dealing with chemical burns, you need to react quickly to minimize the damage to your skin, then after the unsettling feelings of being burned have gone – it’s time to focus on healing the skin. Home remedies for chemical burns can help with this process with the following suggestions:

a) Vinegar:

A mixture of cold water and vinegar can make a healing compress that you hold to the burned skin until the pain lessens.

b) Dry Skin:

Keeping a burn dry and clean will assist in the healing process – it’s not good to let moisture come in contact with affected skin.

c) Aloe Vera:

Break open the leaf of an aloe vera plant to extract the sap that possesses powerful healing properties. Apply the sap over affected skin to cool down the burning sensations and promote a faster rate of healing.

d) Cool Compress:

To relieve the pain of a chemical burn, apply a cool, wet compress. You can also apply a soft cloth soaked in cool water to get the same effect. For the best results, apply the cool compress every hour throughout the day. A wet towel is another way to cool down burned skin. This remedy helps reduce inflammation and treat painful, itchy skin.

e) Mineral Oil or Petroleum Jelly:

Using oil is not recommended for most chemical burns, but when you’ve come in contact with metallic lithium, sodium, potassium or magnesium. – using mineral oil is a preferred remedy since these chemicals react with water. Soak affected skin in mineral oil. Use petroleum jelly when your chemical burn is associated with white phosphorus.

f) Drink Water:

Drinking lots of water throughout the day will keep your body hydrated, which encourages a faster rate of healing to take place.

g) Papaya:

When a chemical burn has left you with dead skin cells that could hinder your healing process, turn to using fresh papaya pulp.

h) Yellow Mustard:

Some people have applied yellow mustard to their burned skin. After applying, wash off after the paste has dried.

i) Mint Leaves and Tea Bags:

A combination of mint leaves, a couple of tea bags, and water can be boiled together to create a decoction for chemically burned skin. Strain the liquid and place it in the refrigerator to cool. Dab a small amount of the liquid on your burned skin, and let it dry. Wash off any remaining residue.

A dust allergy can make you feel like a prisoner in your own home, as a mixture of many different substances can cause symptoms to erupt. Allergies associated with things in your household can make you feel miserable. Luckily, home remedies for a dust allergy can help you ease symptoms and prevent future attacks.

Causes and Symptoms

House dust causes a person with sensitivity to the allergen to show symptoms. A combination of various substances plays a role in triggering symptoms. Not every home is affected by the same kind of dust allergens, but typical culprits include dust mites, cockroaches, fungi (such as mold), and animals. Allergens collect in the dust and can cause a response in the immune system that leads to the production of a special antibody (called Immunoglobulin E or IgE) [1]. IgE causes an allergic inflammatory response, and it only takes a small amount of the dust allergen to trigger symptoms.

For example, dust mites feed on the skin cells that humans shed. They don’t need to drink water to survive, but absorb water from humidity in their surroundings. The mites are able to thrive in temperatures around 70 degrees F and in humidity levels around 70%. The feces and decaying bodies of dust mites also contribute to dust problems in the home. Allergy symptoms occur when the immune system reacts to a foreign substance that you inhale.

Symptoms of a dust allergy include:

•	Redness or watery eyes
•	Itching and swelling to exposed skin
•	Swelling under the eyes
•	Constant sneezing
•	Wheezing
•	Difficulty breathing
•	Sinus problems
•	Runny nose
•	Coughing
•	Hay fever (in severe cases)

Dust Allergy Home Remedies

When you come in contact with dust and have an allergy, the symptoms can become a real downer – making it hard to enjoy the comforts of your own home. Other health issues may follow, including respiratory problems. To treat your symptoms, consider the many different home remedies for a dust allergy, such as the following:

a) Dehumidifier:

A dehumidifier can rid your room of dust mites because they require an environment with high humidity to thrive. They pick a ‘hot spot’ and burrow into the fabric. A dehumidifier will bring the humidity level around 40 to 45 percent or below.

b) Plastic:

A soft mattress is a nice place for dust mites to live, where they feed off of dead skin cells. Placing a plastic covering over your mattress can stop their migration to your sheets and blankets.

c) Steam Cleaner:

Use a steam cleaner on your mattress to kill the dust mites that currently reside in your fabrics.

d) Hide Your Knick Knacks [2]:

While the books, dried flowers and other keepsakes look nice on your shelves – your decorative knick knacks can become a hideaway for dust mites. Store your knick knacks in a closet or drawer to cut down on the amount of dust in your home.

e) Freezer:

The soft material of stuffed animals is a popular target for dust mites. Carefully dust off the toys by hitting them briskly outside to remove dust, dirt and grime. Place the toys in a plastic bag and place in the freezer. Dust mites cannot live in the cold and will die when exposed to the freezing temperatures for at least four hours.

f) Weekly Washings:

To remove dust mites from your sheets, pillowcases and blankets – wash all of your bedding on a weekly basis in hot water of at least 130 degrees. This temperature is too hot for the mites to survive. This practice will help keep dust mite populations under better control.

g) Oil:

To more efficiently remove dust from object – use a damp or oiled mop or rag to prevent dust from becoming airborne and resettling somewhere else [3].

h) Book Storage:

Dust mites like to make a home in old books so storing your reading material away from the places you sleep can decrease your exposure to gathered dust and dust mites. An enclosed cabinet or shelving is a good place to keep your bestsellers.

i) Bedspreads:

When you use a bedspread on your bed during the day, dust collects on the bedspread and not on you. Remove the spread at night to enjoy a dust-free slumber.

j) Polish Your Floors:

Hardwood or linoleum floors are best for keeping the mite population in your home at a minimum. Mites cannot survive on a dry, polished floor.

k) Face Mask:

When cleaning, avoid inhaling dust by wearing a small mask that covers the nose and mouth. This will cut the amount of allergens that reach your lungs.

l) Garlic:

The healing power of garlic can help a person with allergies by fighting some of their symptoms and removing some of the allergen from the body. To benefit, add to your meals when cooking or take a supplement.

m) Vacuum:

A daily vacuum of the house will help keep the dust mite population down because you are able to remove surface dust from carpeting and upholstered furniture. The best filter for a person with a dust allergy is a HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air), which helps in decreasing house-dust emissions from the vacuum cleaner. Also, to prevent an allergy attack, stay out of a vacuumed room for 20 minutes to avoid coming in contact with airborne particles.

n) Adjust Your Air Conditioner:

When you lower your air conditioner to 30 to 50% humidity, dust mites will have a hard time thriving in your household.

o) Turmeric:

Belonging to the ginger family, turmeric is a popular coloring agent in various ethnic foods. However, the therapeutic rewards of turmeric have been linked to treating inflammation associated with asthma and other breathing difficulties.

p) Remove Carpeting:

If you suffer from severe dust mite allergies, it is suggested to remove wall-to-wall carpeting in your home. Dust mites like making a home throughout the fibers of the carpet.

From the things you eat to your hereditary traits, there are a lot of factors your heart must overcome to stay healthy and properly functioning. One in three American adults has some form of cardiovascular disease (CVD). As the leading cause of death in the United States and across the world, you may want to get familiar with home remedies for cardiovascular disease.

What is Cardiovascular Disease?

Cardiovascular disease is a group of disorders of the heart and blood vessels that includes high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, heart failure and stroke. Your symptoms will differ according to the type of CVD you are diagnosed with, as the various conditions affect different parts of the body. Coronary heart disease involves the blood vessels that supply the heart muscle, while cerebrovascular disease affects the blood vessels that supply the brain. Other kinds of cardiovascular disease include [1]:

•	Peripheral arterial disease involves blood vessels supplying the arms and legs.

•	Rheumatic heart disease causes damage to the heart muscle and heart valves. It associated with rheumatic fever caused by streptococcal bacteria.

•	Congenital heart disease is linked to malformations of the heart structure that appear at birth.

•	Blood clots in the leg veins (which can dislodge and move to the heart and lungs) are caused by deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.

Causes and Symptoms

Disorders of the heart and blood vessels cause cardiovascular disease, but many factors can lead to these conditions. Major causes include tobacco use, physical inactivity, poor dietary habits, and excessive use of alcohol. Some people are more at risk for developing this kind of disease – many of which can be prevented or effectively treated. These risk factors include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, being overweight, smoking, illegal drug use, and stress. Other factors are unpreventable, such as having a previous heart attack or family member with heart disease. Getting older, your gender and race are also strong factors that can affect your susceptibility to cardiovascular disease.

Often, there are no symptoms that emerge when you have an underlying disease of the blood vessels.

However, if you are suffering from a heart attack or stroke, you could experience pain or discomfort in the center of the chest, arms, left shoulder, elbows, jaw, or back. This could be your first and only warning that you have an underlying condition. Other signs that may emerge include shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, vomiting, nausea, cold sweats, pale skin, lightheadedness, and feeling faint.

Common symptoms for a stroke are a sudden weakness of the face, arm, or leg, most often on one side of the body. You may also feel numbness in one part of the body, have trouble seeing, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination, severe headache, or slurred speech.

Cardiovascular Disease Home Remedies

As a leading cause of death, it is important to become familiar with the things you can do outside of prescriptions that can lessen your risk for cardiovascular disease. To promote a healthy heart and overall body, the following home remedies for cardiovascular disease can certainly put you on the right path:

a) Garlic:

Garlic not only helps ease the symptoms of heart disease, but also prevents conditions from developing in the first place. Add raw garlic to your dishes. Take a daily supplement. Garlic works by clearing the arteries and getting things moving along in the body. Garlic is packed with antioxidants that leads to less plaque buildup, fewer chest pains, and works as a mild anticoagulant that helps thin the blood. Daily consumption or intake is quite beneficial for cardiovascular disease patients.

b) Potassium:

You can keep your blood pressure low and encourage a healthy balance of minerals in the body by increasing the amount of potassium-rich foods in your diet. Consider adding more white potatoes, yams, low-fat yogurt, soybeans, avocado, cantaloupe, pistachios, peanuts, oranges, apricots, and lettuce to your diet [2].

c) Grapefruit:

The tarty yet sweet experience of biting into a slice of grapefruit could help ease your cardiovascular disease symptoms. The fruit also works towards preventing the development of heart disease in the first place.

d) Quit Smoking:

Smoking plays a major role in the development of heart disease, especially atherosclerosis. The nicotine found in tobacco products constricts blood vessels and forces your heart to work overtime. The carbon monoxide in cigarettes reduces oxygen in your blood, as well as damages the lining of blood vessels.

e) Broccoli:

Broccoli can provide the body with healthy nutrients and calcium, which is good for the heart. One cup of broccoli offers 90 milligrams of calcium.

f) Increase Calcium Intake:

Adding more calcium-rich foods to your diet can keep your heart healthy. Dietary suggestions include salmon, figs, pinto beans, okra, and kale.

g) Chicken:

Since vitamin B6 helps maintain a healthy heart, consuming three ounces of chicken will satisfy 1/3 of your daily requirement for the vitamin.

h) Salmon:

If you face a high risk of developing heart disease, it’s a good idea to add fatty fish to your diet. Salmon is a good choice because it satisfies your daily requirement for vitamin B12. The omega-3 fatty acids in the fish help lower triglycerides and reduce blood clots that could cause blockages in your heart arteries.

i) Spinach:

Substitute your usual lettuce for spinach when making a salad to take advantage of the folic acid and other B vitamins that can prevent heart disease. One-half cup of spinach offers 130 mcg of folic acid.

j) Exercise:

When you get moving more often (even if it is for a short stroll around the neighborhood), you can maintain a healthy weight and control heart disease factors, such as diabetes and high blood pressure. It is suggested to get in 30 to 60 minutes of physical activity for at least three to four days a week. If continuous exercise is stressful to your body, try breaking up your activity into shorter 10-minute sessions.

k) Relaxation Techniques:

Managing your stress levels can help curb symptoms of cardiovascular disease, which gives your heart a break. Some techniques to consider include deep breathing techniques and stretches that relax the muscles.

l) Bran:

The high fiber content in bran cereal is a good way to promote healthy cholesterol levels.

m) Olive Oil:

According to the American Heart Association and the American Dietetic Association, it is recommended to receive the majority of your fat from monounsaturated sources. Instead of using vegetable oils, a better choice is to use olive oil.

n) Peanut Butter:

Eating two tablespoons of peanut butter will give your body 1/3 of your daily intake of vitamin E.

o) Pecans:

The magnesium found in pecans is good for your heart – aim for one ounce of the nuts to get a healthy dose.

p) Wheat Bread:

When looking for bread to make a sandwich, opt for a whole wheat selection. Whole-wheat bread offers 11 mcg of selenium, an antioxidant mineral that works well with vitamin E to protect your heart.

q) Glass of Wine:

Many studies have suggested that drinking a glass of alcohol a day can help fight the symptoms and development of heart disease. This remedy is helpful when followed in moderation – one glass of wine for women and two glasses for men. Other drink suggestions include 12 ounces of beer, five ounces of wine, or 1 ½ ounces of whiskey.

r) Strawberries:

With a great deal of vitamin C, get up to 45 milligrams of heart-healthy vitamins by eating ½ cup of strawberries. The fruit offers the body a nice amount of fiber and potassium.

s) Sweet Potatoes:

Packed with a healthy dose of vitamin A, sweet potatoes also contain other nutrients that protect the heart and keep you further away from heart disease.

t) Apples:

From Red Delicious to Honeycrisp, apples naturally possess properties that stimulate the heart. Consume the fruit to treat cardiovascular disease symptoms, as well as prevent the development of other medical conditions.

u) Pomegranate:

Try drinking pomegranate juice every day to lower your blood pressure and improve other symptoms of cardiovascular disease (such as the thickening of the arteries – atherosclerosis).

v) Soy:

You can reduce your cholesterol by as much as 10% when you replace other dietary protein (such as red meat) with soy.

w) Oranges:

A great benefit comes when you consume oranges, which is known to protect the heart, as well as reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and stroke. Oranges are packed with folate, which plays a major role in helping you avoid cardiovascular disease. Try eating an orange on a daily basis or start your morning off with a glass of orange juice, which helps elevate ‘good cholesterol’ levels. You can also significantly reduce blood pressure by drinking one to two glasses of orange juice per day. The fruit also helps protect you against a stroke.

x) Turmeric:

Not only does turmeric color the food in many Indian dishes and helps make curry powder, the curcumin in the spice offers assistance in treating a range of medical concerns. Some research suggests that turmeric is good for the heart because it contains a type of polyphenol that fights inflammation and could reduce plaque buildup in the blood vessels.

y) Green Tea:

With the power to lower cholesterol and triglycerides, drink green tea to decrease the risk of cardiovascular-related death. It is suggested to consume three or more cups a day for the best results.

z) Avoid Sick People:

Practice good hygiene habits to prevent infections of the heart. Having viral or bacterial infections can place stress on the heart [3]. You should stay away from people that are sick (with a cold or flu).

aa) Wash Your Hands:

Regularly wash your hands to keep away the germs that can make you sick and weaken the heart.

bb) Whole Grains:

Increase the amount of heart-healthy whole grains you receive out of your diet by including more brown rice, lentils, and beans (especially kidney beans and black beans).

It’s an inevitable occurrence – babies cry. Since they cannot tell you how they are feeling in words, our little bundles of joy communicate their pain, fear, hunger and need for sleep by putting on the water works. As you become more knowledgeable in the way an infant expresses him or herself, you may want to consider the helpfulness of home remedies for a crying baby.

Why Does a Baby Cry?

Babies use crying as their way of letting you know that they are in need of some sort of attention. One of the first things that come to mind when you hear a baby cry is that they are hungry. Fussing, lip smacking, and putting their hands into their mouth are some of the signs that indicate a hungry baby. The next most popular reason behind a crying baby is a dirty diaper. A quick sniff test can confirm the need to change a baby’s diaper. Other common causes of a crying baby include:

•	Over Tired – Babies will fuss and cry when they are tired – especially overly tired.

•	Wants to be Held – The desire to be cuddled can cause a baby to cry, as they like to be held close, see their parents’ faces, hear their voices and listen to their heartbeats.

•	Stomach Irritations – Gas, colic and other stomach issues can lead to a crying baby. A baby with colic can cry for at least three hours a day until the condition corrects itself on its own within weeks and weeks. Babies that fuss and cry right after being fed might be experiencing pain in their tummy.

•	Needs a Burping – Babies need a little help removing the air they swallow during a feeding. If the air is not released, it can cause discomfort – leading babies to vocalize their displeasure.

•	Too Hot or Cold – The chill that comes when removing clothes, changing a diaper or using a cold wipe could be met with crying. They will also cry if they are too warm.

•	Sensitivity to Clothing – If your baby is extra sensitive, they may cry when they come in contact with harsh fabrics or itchy clothing tags.

•	Teething – When a new tooth pushes through the tender gums of a baby, the pain causes crying. The first tooth usually breaks through between the ages of 4 and 7 months. Some babies may get their teeth earlier. Signs of a teething baby include drooling, swollen gums, irritability, refusing food, problems sleeping, and facial rash due to the drooling [1].

•	Too Much Stimulation – While babies learn about the world through stimulation of their surroundings, there is a point when it becomes too much. An overload of lights, noise, and movement can lead to problems processing all of the information. A baby may cry when they have had enough.

•	Wants More Stimulation – Sometimes, a baby feels they are not getting enough stimulation and would like to see more of the world. Some babies will stop crying when they stay active.

•	Sickness – A crying baby might be sick or getting sick. When the basic needs have been met and they’ve been comforted, check for illness. A sick baby will emit a sound different than the cries of being hungry or frustrated.

Crying Baby Home Remedies

The sound of a crying baby is one that can break the heart of parents, who scramble to figure out what their child really needs. Sometimes, they are right and other times, they are clueless. To ease some of the common causes that affect infants, consider using home remedies for a crying baby for a solution. A handful of suggestions include:

a) Cold Washcloth:

When a baby is teething, give them something cold and flexible to chew on, such as a cold or slightly frozen washcloth.

b) Your Finger:

A clean finger can temporarily ease the pain of sore gums by gently yet firmly rubbing over affected areas.

c) Petroleum Jelly:

If excessive drool has caused a painful rash on your baby’s face, ease their discomfort by rubbing petroleum jelly on the chin before they take a nap or go to bed. This will protect their skin from the irritation that can prevent a restful sleep.

d) Pure Vanilla Extract:

Rubbing a small amount of pure vanilla extract on a baby’s gums can soothe a crying child. The vanilla eases pain, creates a warm sensation that comforts, and can actually calm some babies with its added properties. Vanilla has a reputation for soothing health concerns, as well as reducing anxiety. For some babies, the extract can also soothe stomach issues.

e) Cloves:

Treat a teething baby or toothache with a bit of cloves, which offers oil that has warming, numbing properties. You can hold a whole clove against a sore tooth to ease pain or rub clove oil on sore gums. Use only a tiny amount to avoid upsetting your infant’s stomach.

f) Check Baby’s Temperature:

A feverish baby will cry, so checking their temperature can rule out the possibility of a fever and sickness.

g) Respond to the Yawn:

An exhausted baby usually turns into a cranky baby. As soon as you see the first sign of being tired (a yawn), quickly put them down for a nap. Many babies cry a lot less and have fewer issues with gas if you follow this method.

h) Minimize Sensory Distractions:

Babies don’t want to miss out on anything so if there is a lot going on in their surroundings, they will most likely cry because they do not want to ‘miss something.’

i) Soft Blanket:

Wrapping your baby in a soft blanket and holding in a nursing position can help calm down a crying baby.

j) Upright Feedings:

To avoid stomach problems during a feeding, get in the habit of keeping your baby in a more upright position. This will help formula or breast milk travel more smoothly into the stomach region. A baby that is hunched over or curled up during a feeding is more likely to experience trapped air.

k) Frequent Burping:

Burp your baby often to get rid of the bubble that develop in the stomach during a feeding – like every few minutes when giving them a bottle or when you change sides during nursing.

l) Weak Herbal Teas:

Some parents treat a baby with colic by giving a highly diluted herbal tea. Popular selections include peppermint, dill, anise, fennel or chamomile. Some mothers that breastfeed report that they have consumed the herbal tea on their own, and their babies have benefitted during nursing.

m) Check for Hairs:

Babies are very sensitive, so when hairs get wrapped around a part of the body – they will cry in protest. Sometimes, the hair can even cut off the circulation if it is too tight. Fingers, toes and the genital region for boys are common places that hairs can get caught and cause a problem.

n) Check Elastic Bands:

The elastic waist on some pants can cause a baby to cry. Try pulling the waistband away from the stomach to see if they gain any comfort. It only takes a small amount of pressure to cause discomfort in the tummy region.

o) Gentle Belly Rub:

When gas has collected in the stomach, a gentle belly rub could ease the pressure. Position your baby across your knees with their stomach in a downward position, and rub his or her back.

p) Hot Water Bottle:

Fill a hot water bottle with lukewarm water and wrap in a towel – place on the belly and let your baby lie on top of you. Do not make the water too hot for a baby. While it may be warm to you, a baby’s skin is much more sensitive.

q) Soothing Music:

Lullabies and gentle tunes can help calm a crying baby.

r) Bicycle Movement:

Place your baby on their back and hold their feet while gently moving their legs in a bicycle motion for several times a day. This can become a good way to relieve gas and other stomach concerns. A good time to follow this practice is when changing the diaper.

s) Heartbeat Method [2]:

To soothe a child, try mimicking the sounds of the womb by patting your baby on the back in a regular rhythm or heartbeat pattern. This sound is a good way to make a fussy baby calmer.

t) Car Ride:

The movement, noise, and vibration of a car ride can be an effective remedy for colic.

u) Warm Bath:

To soothe the symptoms of colic, give your child a warm bath as a way to distract and relax. Some babies quiet right away when they are held in a shower – with the spray of water gently hitting their back.

People who are confined to a bed or wheelchair and cannot move without the help of others may experience weakened skin because of insufficient blood flow. Decreased circulation can lead to sores on the skin. To prevent the condition and encourage healing, home remedies for bedsores can alleviate some of the damage when in the early stages.

What are Bedsores?

Also known as pressure sores or pressure ulcers, bedsores indicate an injury to the skin that affects underlying tissues when too much pressure is applied to a part of the body. Bony areas are more vulnerable to developing bedsores, such as the hips, heels and buttocks. People living in a nursing home or staying in the hospital for long periods of time are at the highest risk for experiencing bedsores.

Symptoms of Bedsores

There are four stages that a bed sore undergoes as it increased in severity. Only patients with Stage I or II can benefit from home remedies – any other symptoms requires the assistance of a medical professional.

Reddened (or discolored) skin typically develops. The site may become painful, firmness, or cooler than surrounding skin. Stage II creates an open wound, where the outer layer of the skin shows signs of damage. A pressure ulcer may develop – a pinkish-red shade. Sometimes, a patient may experience a fluid-filled blister that ruptures.

In Stage III, the ulcer has become a deep wound. Skin is lost – usually exposing underlying fat and some yellowish dead tissue. The ulcer now resembles a crater and may have spread to affect surrounding healthy skin. A patient with a stage IV bed sore has lost a lot of tissue. Muscle, bone and tendons can become exposed, along with darkened, dead tissue. Symptoms of bedsores usually appear on the tailbone, shoulder blades, spine, hips, heels, skin behind the knees, and the backs of arms and legs [1].

Bedsore Home Remedies

When bedsores go unnoticed and left untreated, the threat of infection can take a life-threatening turn for the worst. A speedy response can cut down on the amount of suffering and long-term damage. The following home remedies for bedsores can help treat early symptoms:

a) Change Positions:

Promote healing of bedsores and prevent new ones from forming by changing positions while lying in the bed. When you move, skin pressure is released and circulation starts to increase. A patient in a wheelchair should be repositioned every 15 minutes, while bedridden patients should move at least every two hours.

b) Baby Powder:

To decrease friction when moving a patient with bedsores, use baby powder.
Pillows:

Reduce pressure to the skin by using pillows for support.

c) Clean the Sore:

Bedsores need to be regularly cleaned to promote healing. Removal of any dead skin is also important. Antiseptics can damage the skin and slow down the healing process, which makes a warm saline solution (salt water) a suitable choice. You can create a cleansing solution for bedsores by mixing two cups of water and two to three tablespoons of table salt. Allow the salt to dissolve in the water before transferring to a squeeze bottle. Apply the salt-water solution over bedsores – making sure to place a clean towel under the affected skin to catch excess water.

d) Honey:

This miracle substance has played a role in accelerated skin healing and wound care for centuries. Honey also acts as a skin moisturizer. The antiseptic qualities help prevent and treat infections. Add honey to a gauze bandage or pad, and place on a bedsore. Change the honey dressing at least once every 24 hours. Improved results are typically seen within one week and 10 days.

e) Mild Soap:

To prevent infection, you must keep open wounds clean. Gently wash a stage I bedsore with mild soap and water.

f) Keep Skin Dry:

It is extremely important to keep the skin dry of bedridden or wheelchair bound people. When moisture becomes trapped under pressure, the tissue starts to deteriorate and open sores can develop.

g) Vitamins:

Your body needs nutrients and vitamins to fight the formation of bedsores and to encourage healing. Certain vitamins are more beneficial, such as vitamin C and zinc, which speeds up the healing process of wounds.

h) Phillips Milk of Magnesia:

When added to iodine, milk of magnesia has been known to provide a soothing remedy for bedsores. Mix the ingredients in a bowl and set aside for 30 minutes. Next, apply the remedy to bedsores several times per day (or as needed). After a few days, patients have reported signs of healing. Some people have applied Milk of Magnesia directly onto their bedsores to see results. Another remedy using Phillips Milk of Magnesia involves combining one teaspoon with one teaspoon of sugar to create a paste. Spread the mixture on bedsores to encourage a scab to grow over the open wound.

i) Honey and Vegetable Juices:

Combine two tablespoons of honey and one tablespoon of rhubarb (or beet) juice to create a healing paste that is applied to bedsores. If the mixture is too runny, add a bit of flour as a natural thickening agent. Cover the wound with a bandage and change daily.

j) Air Mattress:

To reduce the pressure of bedsore-affected skin, you may need to sleep on an air mattress to get a comfortable rest. The ‘cushion of ‘air’ that this type of mattress offers is less stressful than a mattress with springs.

k) Aloe Vera:

Before applying aloe vera gel to a bedsore, clean the area and apply once or twice per day. The aloe will bring soothing relief, as well as encourage a speedy recovery.

l) Lysol:

The disinfectant power of Lysol has been used by caretakers of bedridden patients to prevent and heal bedsores. Place Lysol in a spray bottle and apply over the part of the body where a bedsore has developed. The Lysol will help infected bedsores to heal by killing germs.

m) Humidifier:

A humidifier prevents the skin dryness that can lead to irritation associated with bedsores. Skin with a decent level of moisture is more resistant to bedsores and other infections.

n) Vitamin E Oil:

Apply vitamin E oil over the body to moisturize skin and make it more resistant to the dryness that can lead to bedsores.

o) Get Your Vitamins:

If you are bedridden or confined to a wheelchair, eating a diet full of essential vitamins can become a lifesaver. It is important to get plenty of vitamins A, B, C, D and E, which can prevent and heal bedsores.

p) Turmeric Powder:

Some people have sprinkled turmeric powder on affected skin to disinfect a pressure sore.

q) Drink Water:

When you drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water, you will keep the skin soft, as well as promote the removal of dead tissue.

r) Quit Your Vices:

Bad habits can make bedsores worse. Smoking causes dry skin and reduced blood supply to the skin. The healing process also slows down when you smoke tobacco products. Drinking caffeinated drinks, such as tea and coffee, should also decrease.

s) Sugar:

A mixture of honey and sugar can be applied to bedsores to encourage healing. Apply directly to your wounds.

t) Petroleum Jelly:

To keep bedsores moist and encourage faster healing, apply petroleum jelly. Cover with gauze bandages and secure with a piece of tape. Reapply the petroleum jelly at least two more times to keep the wound covered throughout the day.

u) Increase Fiber Intake:

A daily bowel movement can prevent bedsores from getting worse. Increasing your intake of fiber can help – consider fruits, vegetables and high-fiber cereals.

v) Massage:

In the very early stages of bedsores, you can massage the area to promote better circulation to pressure points.

w) Vitamin E Soap:

A daily sponge bath using a soap containing vitamin E is beneficial for a patient with bedsores.

x) Cotton Clothing:

Wearing clothing made out of cotton offers a breathable material that makes skin with bedsores more comfortable.

Only a person who has experienced a migraine can truly explain how much different it is from a regular headache. Sometimes, the painful is unbearable. It is estimated that more than 28 million Americans suffer from this type of headache. Thankfully, instant treatment can also come in the form of home remedies for migraines.

What is a Migraine?

A migraine is a severe headache that can affect other parts of the body – in addition to the great pain it can cause. The lingering effects can last as short as a few hours to continuing on for days. Before and while someone suffers an attack, there are certain sensory warnings that emerge, such as flashes of light or a tingling in the arms and legs.

Causes and Symptoms

A migraine headache arises when blood vessels enlarge and chemicals from surrounding nerve fibers are released. The headache is affected by the enlarging of an artery located on the outside of the skull. It’s situated just under the skin of the temple. The inflammation causes chemicals to release into your system that lead to inflammation, pain, and further enlargement of the artery.

Migraines can cause feelings of nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, blurred vision, and an increased sensitivity to light and sound. The head may pulse and throb with pain, which can increase as you engage in an activity. The ultimate cause of migraines is not completely understood, but your family tree and environment affects your symptoms. There are also triggers of migraine headaches to consider, especially foods and alcoholic drinks. Other triggers include:

•	Hormonal changes – including birth control and hormone replacement therapy
•	Stress – at work or home
•	Stimulus to the senses – such as bright lights, sun glare, and unpleasant odors
•	Smoking or exposure to smoke
•	Skipping meals or fasting
•	Changes in sleep patterns – including jet lag
•	Environmental changes – fluctuating weather or barometric pressure
•	Physical factors – intense physical exertion
•	Certain medications
•	Allergies and allergic reactions

Many people who suffer from migraines experience what is called ‘an aura’ just before or during the head pain emerge. An aura is a perceptual disturbance that could include confusing thoughts or reactions [1]. You may see strange lights, flashing lights, sparkling flickers, lines in your field of vision, and blind spots. You may detect unpleasant smells. Your arms and legs could feel like they are being pricked with pins and needles.

Migraine Home Remedies

Since migraines can prevent you from enjoying life or completing your everyday tasks, it is important to learn ways on how to stop an attack in its tracks. Some of the following home remedies for migraine headaches could become your go-to solution when symptoms start to develop:

a) Honey:

Treat frequent migraine headaches by sipping on a ½ glass of warm water with a couple of teaspoons of honey added to it. Before drinking, let the honey completely dissolve. If the pain is still lingering, repeat another serving after 20 minutes. This remedy is especially effective in treating migraines associated with stress.

b) Foods with Phenylalanine:

Phenylalanine offers pain relief for someone suffering a migraine headache. High amounts are found in sunflower seeds. Other sources to consider include lentils, peanuts, spinach and butternut squash.

c) Elderberries:

At the start of a migraine, add 10 to 15 elderberries to one cup of water in a small saucepan. Mash the berries and bring the contents to a quick boil. Reduce the heat, and then simmer for about 10 minutes. Strain the content (sweeten if you wish), and then drink the remedy.

d) Avoid Foods with Tyramine:

Avoid eating foods containing tyramine, such as red wine, aged cheese, smoked fish, chicken livers, figs, and certain kinds of beans.

e) Avoid Nitrates:

If you are susceptible to experiencing migraine headaches, you may want to avoid eating foods that contain nitrates, such as bacon, hot dogs, and salami.

f) Know Common Trigger Foods:

There are certain foods that have a stronger connection to migraine headaches, such as chocolate, nuts, peanut butter, avocado, banana, citrus, onions, and dairy products. Fermented or pickled foods are also common culprits.

g) Massage:

Try massaging a migraine away by applying your fingertips in a circular motion over your scalp. The best way to enjoy a massage for a migraine is to lie back in a dark, quiet room while someone massages your scalp. Focus on the head and avoid the temples.

h) Thyme:

Add one teaspoon of dried thyme herb to one cup of hot water. Drink to treat migraines.

i) Flaxseed:

The essential fatty acids found in flaxseeds are ideal in treating migraines because they make your body produce fewer harmful chemicals that can constrict blood vessels and increase your sensitivity to pain. It is suggested to take one to two tablespoons of fresh, cold-pressed oil daily.

j) A Good Night’s Sleep:

Some people experience migraine headaches because they do not get enough sleep – so hit the sack early to combat symptoms.

k) Vinegar:

Bring a mixture of equal parts of water and vinegar to a boil. For several minutes, inhale the fumes to ease the symptoms of a migraine.

l) Lemon Coffee:

Add one tablespoon of lemon juice to a strong cup of coffee to treat migraine headaches.

m) Avoid Artificial Sweeteners:

Popular artificial sweeteners could worsen your migraine headaches, especially aspartame (like Nutrasweet). Eliminating this ingredient in your diet could improve symptoms and the frequency of your headaches.

n) Niacin:

Studies have shown that niacin can improve the symptoms of a migraine headache. Some people take pill supplements, while others add certain foods to their diet, such as green leafy vegetables, nuts, sunflower seeds, whole wheat, and tomatoes. In capsule form, a recommended dosage is taking 100 grams daily.

o) Rosemary:

Rosemary is an herb that stimulates the circulatory system – bringing more blood and oxygen to the brain. Add one teaspoon of dried or one tablespoon of fresh herb to a cup, and pour ½ cup of boiling water over the herb. Cover the cup and let steep for 15 to 20 minutes.

p) Hairdryer:

Some people have used a hairdryer on a medium setting to lessen the discomfort of a migraine headache. Direct the warm air towards the pain.

q) Relaxation:

Relaxation can help people with migraines because a slow unwind (such as exercise, listening to your favorite tunes, or reading a book) is beneficial.

r) Vegetable Juices:

A mixture of vegetable juices can ease symptoms of a migraine headache. Try a combination of spinach, beet, and cucumber juices.

s) Ice Towel:

An easy home remedy for migraine headaches is an ice towel. First, wet a towel and wring it out before placing in the freezer for about five minutes. Take out the towel and refold it. Put it back in the freezer to make sure all parts of the material are cold. Wrap the towel around your head or neck until the pain of a migraine subsides.

t) Magnesium:

A deficiency of magnesium in the brain can lead to a migraine headache. Taking a supplement or eating foods high in magnesium will not only relax muscles, but also ease symptoms of a migraine. Suggested foods to add to your diet include dark green, leafy vegetables, fruits and nuts.

u) Garlic and Onion:

Use a combination of garlic and onion to thin the blood, which can reduce the platelet activity that could lead to triggering a migraine headache.

v) Bay:

Since bay is linked to inhibiting the release of serotonin (which can cause migraines), consume bay leaves if you frequently suffer from migraine headaches.

w) Red Pepper:

The capsaicin found in red peppers can help relieve the pain of a migraine. It is suggested to best take it in capsule form.

y) Vitamin C:

The bioflavonoids in vitamin C can help reduce the attacks of migraines.

z) Aspirin:

Taking an aspirin every other day can help alleviate the frequency of migraines.

aa) Ease Up on Coffee:

Drinking too much coffee sends a lot of caffeine in the body, which can counteract your attempts to treat a migraine. For some, caffeine is a trigger to their headaches.

bb) Ginger:

Taking 500 to 600 milligrams of dried ginger mixed in a glass of water at the start of a migraine headache can help lessen the pain. Repeat this remedy every four hours to see the best results. Some people will use fresh ginger instead – about 2 ½ teaspoons of fresh, grated root.

cc) Stay Out of Sun:

Direct exposure to sunlight can irritate the eyes and worsen migraine symptoms.

dd) Chamomile Tea:

Sip on a cup of chamomile tea on a daily basis to lessen the severity of migraine headache symptoms.

When life hands you lemons – make a home remedy. One of the most versatile household cleaners is the lemon, which helps brighten, whiten, cleanse, and deodorize your surroundings. Keeping a few pieces of the fruit will surely come handy, especially around the household for home remedies using lemons.

Why are Lemons Helpful?

In the household, lemons are helpful because they contain acidic and antiseptic properties that are beneficial when cleaning the home. Lemons are able to remove stains in the kitchen, bathroom and on clothing. The citrus scent of a lemon is invigorating, refreshing and uplifting – perfect for freshening up a room or removing unwanted odors. Because of this, lemon is a popular scent for a clean home.

Lemon Home Remedies

When choosing lemons for home remedies, you should select fruit that have smooth, oily skins. They should be heavy for their size. Select bright yellow lemons that are free from any green streaks. Keep in mind that lemons keep for up to one week at room temperature and two to three weeks in the refrigerator. To take advantage of eco-friendly cleaning with a pleasant scent, consider the following home remedies using lemons:

a) Clean Copper:

Use lemon juice to clean copper-bottomed pots and pans. Cut a lemon in half, and sprinkle on a bit of salt. Together, the lemon juice and abrasiveness of the salt will remove spots from your copper. You can also use the juice to revamp the look of copper fixtures.

b) Remove Fireplace Odor:

Not all fireplaces send out a pleasantly warm fire, but instead, can deliver an unwanted stench. Toss a couple of lemon peels into the flames to counteract the odor.

c) Neutralize Vinegar Smell:

Vinegar is an effective household cleaner, but can turn people off with its strong smell. To neutralize the vinegar smell, add lemon juice to your spray bottle used for eco-friendly cleaning.

d) Get Rid of Ants:

Break up an ant party by pouring lemon juice around the areas that ants tend to gather.

e) Toilet Cleaner:

Create an effective toilet cleaner by mixing one cup of lemon juice and ½ cup of Borax, which cleans, disinfects and leaves behind a pleasant scent.

f) Freshen Up Your Fridge:

To control and eliminate unpleasant smells in your refrigerator, store half of a lemon on a shelf.

g) Cut Dish Grease:

Lemon juice is a natural degreaser when used in its undiluted form. You can also enhance the grease cutting power of your dishwashing detergent by adding one teaspoon of lemon juice.

h) Window Cleaner:

Add four tablespoons of lemon juice to ½ gallon of water to create an effective cleaner for windows.

i) Remove Countertop Stains:

Place a small amount of lemon juice on a countertop stain – let it sit for a few minutes. Scrub away with baking soda to quickly eliminate stubborn stains.

j) Get Rid of Drain Odor:

When a garbage disposal smells less than desirable, add a couple of lemon rinds and run the disposal. Pouring lemon juice and hot water can also freshen up a smelly drain.

k) Bleach Clothing:

Take advantage of the natural bleaching agent found in lemon juice when you want to revamp the look of white linens and clothes. Allow the articles to dry in the sun, which helps bleach any stains away.

l) Erase Ink Spots:

Ink stains on a shirt are usually looked at as the ‘kiss of death,’ but lemon juice has proven an effective way to remove unsightly spots. The acid of lemon juice works best when used before the ink dries. Liberally treat a stain, and then wash clothing in cold water.

m) Clean Cutting Boards:

When stinky vegetables, spices and other foods (such as fish, onions and garlic) have turned your cutting board into a smelly warzone, squeeze the juice from half a lemon onto the board. Follow up by scrubbing and then leaving the juice to soak on the board for 20 minutes. Rinse off with water and repeat if needed. This remedy will also disinfect your cutting board.

n) Clean Your Microwave:

Add four tablespoons of lemon juice to one cup of water. Boil the liquid in the microwave for five minutes, and then wipe the walls of the microwave clean with a sponge or paper towel.

o) Natural Hand Cleaner:

Rinse your hands with lemon juice to remove tough stains and odors, such as fruit juices, garlic, and onions.

p) Clean Stainless Steel:

Treat your stainless steel belongings to a lemon juice and salt mixture that not only cleans, but also adds shine. Sprinkle a lemon wedge with salt, and rub away stains after adding a small amount of water.

q) Prevent Browning of Food:

Adding lemon juice to your dishes can prevent the natural browning that takes place when foods are left out in the air. This remedy helps keep apples, pears, potatoes, cauliflower, and even guacamole looking fresh.

r) Prevent Sticky Rice:

To prevent your rice from sticking together, add a spoonful of lemon juice to the pot of boiling water when cooking it. When the rice is finished, let it cool for a couple of minutes, and then fluff with a fork before serving.

s) Crisp Soggy Lettuce:

The next time you pull out a soggy head of lettuce from the refrigerator, add the juice of half a lemon to a bowl of cold water, and then place the soggy lettuce in. Refrigerate for one hour. Before using, completely dry the leaves before using them in a sandwich or salad.

t) Clean Food Grater:

The little particles left behind in the small holes of a food grater are pretty hard to remove, but with a half of lemon, you can remove the residue without much effort. Simply rub both sides of the grater with the lemon after using – perfect for disinfecting and removing unwanted food odors.

u) Freshen Dishwasher:

To remove musty smells from a dishwater, add ¼ cup fresh lemon juice to the soap dispenser. The smells will disappear, as well as lingering bacteria.

v) Clean Marble:

Fight tough stains on marble flooring and countertops by cutting a lemon in half and dipping the flesh into table salt [1]. Rub on stains, but do so quickly, as the acid can actually damage your marble. Make sure to rinse well after using.

w) Remove Limescale:

Dissolve hard water deposits and soap scum in the bathroom by rubbing a cut lemon around your water faucets and around your sink. Leave on the lemon for a few minutes, and then rinse off. Add the juice from two fresh lemons to a spray bottle filled with water – wipe the mixture around the shower panel and tiles to prevent a buildup of limescale.

x) Fight Mold and Mildew:

Do away with the unsightly spots of mildew and mold by making a paste out of one part lemon juice and one part baking powder. Leave on the paste for two hours, and then rinse off.

y) Fabric Stain Remover:

Dab a bit of lemon juice and salt on fabric stains to remove blood, grass, underarm perspiration, and rust. Allow the ingredients to sit for a bit of time before rinsing well. Follow up by washing as normal.

z) Polish Furniture:

To add shine and appeal to your wooden furniture, make a homemade furniture polish with one part lemon juice and two parts olive oil.

aa) Clean Brass:

Shine up your brass objects by making a paste out of fresh lemon juice and baking soda. Apply the remedy to your brass fixtures or fittings in your home (like light switch plates and door handles). Gently rub with a soft cloth, and then buff to achieve a shine.

bb) Natural Air Freshener:

The uplifting scent of lemons makes the perfect air freshener. Boil chopped up fresh lemons in a saucepan filled with water for 30 minutes. You can also put half a fresh lemon in the oven to create a heated scent that revamps your kitchen and remove lingering cooking smells.

cc) Neutralize Cat Odor:

Remove litter box and cat odors by cutting a couple of lemons in half, and placing them (cut side up) in a dish in the room. The air will soon absorb the pleasant scent of lemon.

dd) Revamp Your Humidifier:

It’s no fun distributing a musty odor into the air when running your humidifier. Eliminate unwanted odors by adding three to four teaspoons of lemon juice to the water. The added bonus is the scent of lemon in the air.

ee) Shine Up Chrome:

Remove mineral deposits and add a shine to chrome faucets and other objects by rubbing a lemon rind over the chrome. Rinse well, and then dry with a soft cloth.
