Home Remedies for Back Acne
Acne is a common skin condition that strikes the face, but as it worsens, the pimples and other irritation can increase in severity. As a result, other parts of the body become affected, such as the back. The condition can affect teens and adults –appearing in both males and females. To treat symptoms and get rid of the pimples, consider using home remedies for back acne.

The Differences of Back Acne
Back acne (also called ‘bacne’) is a fairly common amongst people with facial acne. The same condition that causes acne to develop on the face is responsible for back acne. The lesions that emerge are similar, but the pores involved are different. Pores on the back are larger and produce more oil than the pores on the face. Since the pores are larger, the back is susceptible to more severe lesions, such as nodules and cysts. Back acne is usually harder to treat than facial acne because the skin is thicker and tougher with a multitude of glands working against you that produce a great deal of oil [1].
Causes and Symptoms
Back acne can develop from overactive oil glands, excess dead skin cells, and the growth of bacteria associated with acne. Other causes and factors linked to back acne include:
• Sweat – Acne on the back can develop and worsen with the presence of sweat.
• Your Family Tree – If someone in your family (like your mother or father) suffered from back acne, you are more likely to experience the same condition.
• Glands and Pores – Some cases of back acne can be attributed to the overproduction of the sebaceous glands, which can occur around puberty or other times of significant hormonal changes. When oil and dead skin cells become trapped in pores or hair follicles, the blockage can lead to blackheads that can turn into a pimple when bacteria gets involved.
• Medication – Some drugs and medications can cause acne to develop on the back, such as steroids, seizure meds, and barbiturates.
• Hormones – An imbalance in hormones can cause acne to develop on the back of women, especially when they are pregnant or menstruating.
• Clothing – Wearing tight clothes can force perspiration to become trapped against your skin, which leads to clogged pores. The friction of certain clothing materials can also lead to back acne.
• Food Allergies – People allergic to certain foods can develop acne on the back, especially when the allergens are found in dairy products, such as milk and cheese.
Back acne symptoms include:
• Irritation or itching on the back
• Pink bumps on the skin
• Inflamed pores
• Deep pus-filled lesions that can drain
• Scarring
Back Acne Home Remedies
When it comes time to treat the symptoms of acne on the back, there are a variety of common household tricks and lifestyle changes to consider. With a little patience and extra attention, you can put the following home remedies for back acne to good use:
a) Aloe Vera:
Using the gel that comes from snapping off a piece of aloe vera plant can become an effective way to heal acne on the back. The juice from the plant also encourages a faster healing process.
b) Apple Cider Vinegar:
Apply apple cider vinegar to your back that has been diluted with three parts water. This remedy should be repeated at least twice per day. After a week has passed, increase the strength to a 50/50 solution of water and vinegar. If you experience no irritation, follow up with a full-strength application. The astringent properties of the vinegar will help to clear up back acne.
c) Cotton Clothing:
Opt for wearing breathable cotton clothing when fighting an acne outbreak on your back.
d) Drop the Backpack:
Wearing a backpack will worsen acne on the back during your treatments. Once you have cleared up the problem, you can resume wearing the backpack.
e) Sleeping Positions:
The way you sleep can affect the skin health of your back. To avoid rubbing your back against the bed when asleep, get in the habit of sleeping on your side.
f) Clean Sheets and Blankets:
The cleanliness of your blankets and bed sheets can affect the health of your skin. Make sure your linens are clean to avoid worsening the acne on your back.
g) Fruits and Vegetables:
To get rid of back acne, fruits and vegetables can help detoxify the body and give a boost to the immune system.
h) Garlic:
Eating three to four cloves of garlic on a daily basis to help the immune system better fight off the bacteria that causes back acne.
i) Toothpaste:
Applying a thin layer of white toothpaste to your back can help dry out the oil that leads to pimples on the back. Leave the remedy on for 30 minutes or until it completely dries. Use cool water to gently rinse the toothpaste from your back. The toothpaste can be used as a daily treatment.
j) Avoid Certain Drinks:
Try replacing your soda, coffee and tea intake with herbal or green tea to take advantage of healing antioxidants.
k) Tomato:
Crush a tomato and apply the pulp to affected skin. Allow the mask to work its magic for 30 minutes before washing off with cold water. The tomato provides the body with vitamins A and C, and also helps reduce the size of pores. ??
l) Flax Oil:
Consuming flax oil helps remove a buildup of toxins and impurities associated with hormonal imbalances in the body. Use this remedy as a daily treatment.
m) Increase Water Intake:
Since water flushes out the impurities in the body, you can cleanse your entire system by drinking 1 ½ to 2 liters of water on a daily basis.
n) Honey Lemon Water:
In the morning (when you first wake up with an empty stomach), drink a glass of lukewarm water with half a lemon and one teaspoon of honey added to it for enhanced removal of toxins and impurities in your system that can cause acne on the back.
o) Honey and Sugar:
Scrub away dead skin cells and other impurities that clog the pores with a honey and sugar mixture. Stir together a few tablespoons of sugar and honey (for healing inflammation and addressing bacterial infections) to create a massage scrub for the back. Gently rub into the skin or have someone do it for you while in the shower. Allow the remedy to soak into the skin, and then completely rinse off. Repeat the massage two times a week to prevent and treat back acne.
p) Cinnamon Powder and Lemon Juice:
Add freshly squeezed, natural lemon juice to cinnamon powder to create a home remedy for back acne. Combine three tablespoons of lemon juice and one tablespoon of powdered cinnamon in a small bowl. Mix the ingredients together thoroughly. Spread a thin layer over affected skin, and then leave on for about one hour. Rinse off the skin using cool water.
q) Oatmeal:
Oatmeal will help in the absorption of excess oil on the skin that contributes to acne on the back. Cook plain oatmeal in the same way you would for breakfast. Add ¼ cup of honey to the oatmeal, and allow the ingredients to cool. After the oatmeal has cooled, apply to acne-affected areas of the back. Leave on for 10 to 20 minutes. Use lukewarm water to remove the remedy.
r) Mint:
Prepare a mask to treat back acne by mixing mint juice and turmeric together. Rub on the remedy and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse off the treatment with lukewarm water. The mint offers the anti-inflammatory properties of menthol that will help fight inflammation and reduce pain.
s) Nutmeg and Milk:
Treat back acne and leftover scars with a paste made from nutmeg and milk. Place nutmeg in a small bowl, and then add milk to make a smooth paste. Apply the paste and leave on for about an hour or two. Over time, you should see a noticeable change in your back acne.

Blend the ingredients until a smooth paste is made. Apply a thick layer of the paste to the skin. Leave on for up to two hours, and then follow up with a rinse of cool water. Apply your regular moisturizer. Keep the remaining paste in a container with a tight lid in the refrigerator for up to five days. This remedy can be applied warm or cold.
v) Lemon Juice:

w) Exfoliate with Salt:
Treat back acne with salt exfoliation. The grittiness of the salt mixed with other ingredients can help remove dead skin cells and bacteria that can contribute to acne on the back. Use cool water to rinse off the salt scrub.
x) Lime Juice:

Keep the back region clean without aggravating acne by using cleansers that do not contain any perfumes or fragrances. Wash affected areas at least two times per day.
